UK General Insurance Ltd, the Leeds-based specialist general insurer, today
announced that Malachy Smith is to join the Board of UK General and UK
General (Ireland) Ltd, as a non-executive director.
Malachy has both a strong technology background and extensive experience of
the Financial Services sector in Europe. He was previously European managing
director of Wang Technology and CEO of Pitney Bowes for Europe/Africa.
Malachy is currently executive chairman at DNM technology Limited and is a
non-executive director of St Andrew's Insurance (Ireland), and chairman of both
the Ireland Canada business association and Scottish Mutual International.
Executive chairman Howard Posner said: "I am delighted that someone of
Malachy's experience is joining the team. We will benefit enormously from his
advice and counsel as we seek to meet our long term aim of becoming one of the
UK's leading specialist insurers."
Malachy said: "UK General has undergone a great deal of change following the
merger between PBS and Longhawk last year, but it is now well-positioned to
compete effectively in the UK insurance market and deliver profitable growth for
our investors. I am impressed by the management team's strategic ambition and
am looking forward to assisting Howard and the team to deliver the next phase of
growth."
In a separate internal move, Gary Cuddy, currently director of projects, has been
appointed chief information officer, and will join the UK General Group
Management Board, reporting to chief operating officer Michael Warren. Gary's
responsibilities will incorporate IT, Projects and Management Information delivery
across the business, ensuring in particular that new investment in IT will deliver
improved service to brokers.
